With the weather gods perfectly cooperating, we embarked on another Ontario excursion during the weekend of August 2 and 3, 2008. This time we headed towards southwestern Ontario. Our first stop was in St. Jacobs (the former Jakobsstettel) where we admired the various organic delicacies offered in the Farmer’s Market. Colourful peaches, cherries, zucchini, various vegetables, fresh bread and cured meats were enticing the tastebuds and the camera.

Summer is a really beautiful time in Ontario. I decided to show my European guests a little bit of Ontario’s country charm, so we planned an overnight getaway for July 30 and 31, 2008. Just after lunch on July 30, 2008 we started driving east of the city to the charming country town of Port Hope, just about 100 km east of Toronto. Port Hope is a pretty little town of about 16,000, located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River that is a favourite destination of salmon fishermen in the fall.

Having Judy Garland as an all time favorite, quoting Will and Grace at least once a day and being a member of a book-club, I think I’ve earned my space at any Gay Pride Parade. Commemorating the Stonewall Riots, many Pride Parades take place in the month of June, so in the last weeks, we’ve seen ...
