Today, we are here to talk about golf myth. In fact, not just any golf myth but the number one golf myth of all time.
Before we do that, let us take a look at this player over on the left hand side. We are going to take a look at this swing a few times. As we take a look at this, we are going to notice that this player is tapping the ball. The ball is not getting off the ground.
So of course, we know that the problem here is that this player is looking up. At least, that is what all his friends have been telling him for years and years. He is trying to keep his head down, of course, and his friends continue to tell him that he is looking up. We will take a look at this swing now at high speed video, and we can see that at impact, he is in fact not looking up, although his friends are telling him that he is.
Now, let us take a look at the video over on the right hand side. As we look at this video, we can see that this player now is looking up and the ball is getting up in the air and launching very well, compared to the shot over on the left hand side.
So, what is the difference here? We have been told for years that we are looking up and that we need to keep our head down, but that is obviously not the case. That is the number one all-time golf myth.
What did happen in this situation? What is causing us to tap the ball if we are keeping our head down?
As you can see over on the left hand side, coming into impact, the left hand is getting into a cup position and that is shown here through the impact zone by that angle of the left wrist, in relation to the left forearm. When that happens, the club head immediately goes up into the air and is on its way up through impact instead of on its way down, and that is what it will cause you to tap the ball.
As we can see over on the right hand side, the left wrist is in a much more flat and solid position in relation to the left forearm, and that allows the club head to be on its way down through impact. You can see the davit and the ball launching in the air.
