It’s amazing what you can do when your hand is forced. Or...your grandfather’s face is being crushed by a 2,000-pound Buick. At least -- that’s what one Michigan family is saying happened when 15-year-old Austin Smith was helping his grandfather fix his car. Here’s The Monroe News.
“Reports said the older man was underneath the car that was propped up on cinder blocks. He was bleeding the brakes while his grandson was inside the vehicle pumping the brake pedal. Deputies reported the grandson felt the car become unsteady, so he got out. Seconds later, it fell and temporarily trapped his grandfather.”
Detroit’s WDIV reports Smith managed to muster some major adrenaline.
Austin: “All I could think of was just getting the car off of him and that’s what I did.”
Reporter: “The vehicle weighs over 2000 pounds. Austin lifted the vehicle high enough for it to escape.”
Smith’s grandfather -- known as Papa Ernie -- was rushed to the hospital. The Daily Mail reports he’s doing well now, but he suffered some extensive injuries.
“...a serious cut to his face which needed stitches, two black eyes and a fractured rib and eye socket.”
According to WDIV, Smith says there’s no way he’d be able to lift the car again.
