This video bartending lesson is brought to you by American Bartender School. From one of it’s simulated cocktail lounge classrooms, where students all learn by doing, just like on the job training and in only one or two weeks, they can be fully trained and ready to work as professional bartenders and take advantage of the many full and part time job opportunities available.
Welcome back, a drink I’d like to show you today is called, the Long Island iced tea; very, very popular drink. Legend has it that it was started by a bartender on Long Island out on a Hampton. Was it or not, who could say? Anyway, this is a real powerful drink so you have to be careful when you’re serving these or drinking them. Don’t over do it. We’re going to use our tall glass and we’re going to fill it up with ice, and what we’re going to do is use all clear liquors in it. First one we’re going to use is vodka and we’re only going to put half ounce of each one of the clear liquors in it because we’re going to be ending up putting quite a bit of alcoholic spirits in this drink and if we make it too strong somebody will just have one of these and they’ll be off for the rest of the night.
Then we’re going to use a half ounce of our gin, half ounce of our rum, half ounce of our tequila, and a half ounce of triple sec. And triple sec is a liqueur, remember the word liqueur, means a sweet liquor and this is made from dried up oranges and orange peels. So it actually doesn’t have an orange flavor, it has more of an orange peelish taste and it’s used quite a bit in a lot of mixed drinks. So we’re going to use half ounce. Then what we’re going to use is a little bit of our sweet and sour; sweet and sour is a non alcoholic mixer. It’s actually made from citrus concentrate using lemons, limes, sometimes they put just a touch of orange in there and sugar. And let’s get the top off there, just like so but set it in like there, we’re going to put a little dash of coke, and we’re actually going to put either a lemon squeeze or a lime squeeze. I happen to have lime here so that’s what we’re going to use on that alright?
Long Island Iced Tea, great drink, real powerful so be careful, don’t drink and drive after this one and this really does taste like iced tea. Enjoy, be safe. If you like to learn more popular cocktails go to our website, www.barschool.com for more video bartending lessons.
