2009 Dodge Charger SRT8 Review
I am Mike Hanley with Cars.com. The Dodge Charger is like the alpha male of family
sedans. It is brash, aggressive styling is designed to intimidate and it backs up those looks
when you get the SRT8 trim level you see here.
It offers nearly as much horsepower the Chevy Corvette. You can think of this car as
your all American Muscle Sedan. Car buzz will remember that the original Charger was
two-door coupe but when Dodge brought the model back for 2006, they transformed it
into the full sized sedan you see here. The features familiar Dodge styling quills like this
cross head grill. And the headlights given it a bit of an angry appearance, when you
choose the top of the line SRT8 Model, you get this hood scoop here a different lower
front bumper and also 20-inch aluminum wheels.
The Chrysler Street and racing technology team was responsible for the V8 engine under
the Charger SRT8’s hood. It is a 6.1 liter V8 and it makes 425 horsepower, 420 pound
feet of torque. But first of all the engine looks great in the engine bay and it also makes a
deep rumbling exhausts when we step on the gas, Dodge claims the car can go from 0-60
in little over five seconds.
And this engine pairs with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Now they make for a thirsty
couple as the EPA claims that estimated gas mileage for this car is 13 miles per gallon in
the city and 19 on the highway. That is enough to impose a gas guzzler tax of $1,700.00
Dodge interiors are often criticized for their low quality feel and while that is true with
some of its models. The Charger has a relatively nice cabin, it has decent dash board
material and decent arrangement for the center controls. And also in the SRT8 model,
you get these sport front bucket seats that have suede inserts. And in the back there is also
of more contouring in the bench seats to give passengers a more form fitting experience.
Like Dodge’s Grand Caravan mini-van but unlike the number of other passenger cars.
The Charger is available with a backseat video entertainment system. It flips up from the
front center arm rest and it can play DVD movies. The Charger is also available with
streaming satellite television for the system so the kids can watch Disney Channel,
Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon.
The Charger SRT8 is definitely in its model but it has less powerful sibling might be
appropriate for someone looking for an aggressively style full size sedan. In the
availability of all wheel drive on that model it’s definitely a plus.
