Greg Morrison: In a move that has been repeated several times over, Volkswagen is bringing a tried and proven model from Europe to the North American market. If this mid-size Sedan looks familiar it should, it's a Passat, CC that is. In short here is the deal, take a Passat platform, drop the rear roof line a bit and make it a four seater with a few sporty cosmetic touches and --
Brett Scott: And we decided to just give it a name of it's own and from their initial concept it was the concept coupe we turned that into the comfort coupe.
Greg Morrison: To avoid a battle of semantics let's be clear, the CC is a four door sedan with a center post or B-Pillar if you will. The base car comes with VW 2 liter turbo charged four cylinder engine, there is also a 3.6 liter V6 available in both front wheel and 4motion configurations. But why not offer a diesel?
Brett Scott: The big question for this car is which diesel because Volkswagen has a lot of good diesels and we got to give some great consideration to how much horsepower and how much torque is needed in the U.S. market.
Greg Morrison: For now the gasoline powered versions will be the only ones available here. We found out that the four cylinder model was respectable and a drive from Atlanta to Nashville delivering about 31 miles to the gallon.
Frank Washington: This is not performance car so basically it's a little wobbly in the curves, you know you really have to pay attention of what you are doing because you know the car on the one hand on a two lane road like this can fool you in the sense that on the inner state you can feel like you can just cruise along which you can't, but in this particular car once you get on two lane roads with little curves you really have to pay attention of what you are doing, because the way the car can pull a little bit out of the lane and next thing you know you'll find yourself in some real trouble.
Greg Morrison: It is worth noting that the V6 4motion model offered a more balanced response on the same roads. Overall we give the CC good marks for handling and style, it shows what an automaker can do to create a new version of a family oriented sedan in the near luxury sports segment.
