Hi! We are now here at the GM booth and as you can see it's going off. One of the reasons is because for the 2008 SEMA show, the Chevrolet Camaro is the official car of the show. Now that makes a lot of sense because back before SEMA was the Special Equipment Manufacturers Association, it was the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association because company's built a ton of parts for muscle cars just like the Camaro. This year GM brought a whole ton of Camaros to the show, everything from lightly tuned street cars to full on race cars. Let's go check them out.
First stop is the Camaro Black. Now as you can see this is basically a triple black base Camaro V6. It does have the 3.6 litre direct injection V6 that makes about 300 horsepower. But GM hasn't really done anything under hood, they have put all of their time and effort into making the body look good and the interior. Now, why is that important? Well, because well people like to talk about the SS and the powerful V8 Camaro, the bread and butter for GM is the V6. They can sell enough of these, it's what keeps the brand alive. So this is a very important car they can get people to buy them and trick them out just like this.
Now this represents the opposite of the spectrum, this is a full on race car Camaro. It started as a Camaro SS body in white into which GM engineers dropped a 6.2 LSV engine attached to the Tremec TR6060 6V transmission. Of course it has also the race car bits, full roll cage, carbon fibre hood fenders, racing slates, even though we don't know exactly what series this made of racing but that's not the point. The point of the car being here is to show to enthusiasts just what you can do if you just have to pick up one of their cars.
Now those two vehicles represent the extremes of the spectrum from mile to while. In between we found several creative and imaginative examples of what you can do from a tuning perspective. For example, Dale Earnhardt Jr. inspired V8 Camaro SS that runs on 85 ethanol and then in the center of the GM booth is a cherry red Camaro SS that's powered by an LS7 V8. Together these cars represent a wild range of tuning possibilities of the Chevrolet Camaro.
