Honda and Toyota are two of the world's most successful car companies, why? Well, there are a lot of reasons for that but two of them are named Camry and Accord. In order to be a successful car company at least here in North America, you need to be able to just build and sell a world class mid-size Sedan.
Ford had a pretty good start, when it launched the Fusion and the Milan and Lincoln version, the MKZ, originally called Zephyr, in 2006 but the car was never really fully realized. It just wasn't as good as the others. Well now, I believe it will be. They've freshened up the styling, they've put some money in to the interior, instead of the two previous engines there are now four, including a three-and-a-half liter V6 and the sport version and a much needed two-and-a-half liter Hybrid. This is the same type of hybrid system. The Toyota uses a full hybrid and it will go a long way just on electric power.
So, competitive? Well, we haven't driven them yet, so we don't know for sure but the ingredients appear to be right, interiors are better, cars look better, more versions, more power, better mileage, more technology, new infotainment systems and I believe now, a very competitive package. You'll read more in the pages of Motor Trend and here on Motor Trend online, as soon as we've driven these cars and I like what I am seeing so far of the new Ford Fusion.
