Honda Pilot's VCM Improves Fuel Economy
Your pilot is equipped with the latest generation of Honda’s variable cylinder
management or VCM technology. This sophisticated fuel and money saving system takes
advantage of the fact that during normal driving, the Pilot’s V6 engine doesn’t need the
power of all six cylinders at all times.
When the demand on the engine is low, it deactivates the cylinders to use less fuel. So
when you're cruising at a steady lower speed, the engine actually becomes a three
cylinder power plant. Then if you slowly accelerate to a higher cruising speed, the pilot
engine transforms into a four cylinder. Of course, maximum V6 power is always
available when you wanted, such as for acceleration and climbing steep hills. To help you
know when you're doing the best to minimize fuel consumption, the EcoLite on the
instrument panel will illuminate. The EcoLite comes on when you're driving your pilot at
a point when it's getting the best possible fuel economy, which may occur even when all
cylinders are activated.
See your owner’s manual for more information about this remarkable fuel saving
technology.
