2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Review
Let's face it, there's not much at GM that's working better than Cadillac these days. And
this, the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is one of the reasons. We saw this car as a concept
almost two years ago. Here it is in production form. It almost hasn't changed at all. That
doesn't happen in the car business. But they've brought it to market looking just about as
hot and unattainable as a concept car.
Here is why it works. Two inches lower than the sedan, two inches shorter as well, a
crazy rake on the windshield, and almost flat on the rear back light, which tails out to a
high center-mounted stoplight that's actually a little bit of an air foil. And I love this, a
touch-sensitive door handle. Now, later on, they're going to have one of the hot versions
of this car with a high-performance motor. It should be a V with 550 some odd
horsepower.
The base engine on this car, the one you'll be stuck with until they come out with a V
version, is going to be a 304 horsepower, 3.6 liter V6, direct injection. That's a nice
motor, best thing in the GM stable, I think. It will give you 27 miles per gallon, while
giving you good, but not blinding, performance. And again, when the V comes out, look
for a 550 V8. And then we're off for the races. Inside, the coupe's going to give up
nothing in terms of technology, obviously.
Coupes are generally more aspirational, if anything. So we've got the popup navigation
here. Optional, not standard. Bose 5.1 audio. We've got the ability to do an interesting
pause, rewind and record a broadcast radio. That's really kind of unique for this family of
cars. I believe the CTF was the first we saw that in production. Transmission choices can
include this automatic 6-speed or also a manual 6-speed gear box, which is actually
standard, which is kind of unusual.
And, of course, the usual Bluetooth and Bluetooth hands-free, the latest in OnStar.
Whether you've got onscreen navigation or not, you will have turns and directions that
way. So a well-appointed cabin continues. Nothing different on the coupe in that respect.
Looking for a Summer 2010 rollout on this guy. And then if you want the V model with
the big motor, that's going to be late in 2010. Pricing's not announced yet, but they say
compare it to let's say an E-Class Coupe or an Audi A5. The same differential Cadillac
has to those cars now will be the similar price differential on this one.
