2011 Ford Edge Review
Mike: Hi, I’m Mike Hanley with Cars.com. We’re here at the Chicago
Auto Show with the 2011 Ford Edge Crossover. It’s been updated
for the 2011 model year with new exterior styling, new power
trains including Ford’s first application of its EcoBoost
turbocharged four-cylinder and a more luxurious interior.
The biggest change of the edges styling is its new front end which
has an updated version of Ford’s horizontal crumb grille and on the
edge sport model which is also offered, it’s kind of a dark crumb
look. There are new headlights as well but when you get around to
the profile of the car, it’s a lot like the outgoing edge and not until
you get to the rear where Ford has updated the taillights styling on
it.
One of the weak spots of the current edges is, is its cabin because
the materials aren’t the greatest in the class. But with the updates
for 2011 Ford has really addressed that with premium dash
materials and the interior also gets new technology with Ford’s
available MyFord Touch System. We’ve seen this system and they
debuted on the Lincoln MKX which is a sibling model to the Ford
Edge and it’s migrated over to this model now. It really gives the
center control panel a clean appearance with touch sensitive
controls and with the Sony branded audio system, this model has a
nice piano black finish.
Up until now, the Edge has just been offered with one V6 engine.
But for 2011, there are three engines available. There’s more
powerful base V6 and external 285 horsepower then the Edge
Sport gets a 3.7 liter V6 that shared with the Ford Mustang. But
what’s most interesting is the new turbo charge four-cylinder that
debuts in this model. And it’s going to get 15% better fuel
economy than a V6 according to Ford but have V6 like power.
Now, you can get all this from the moment it goes on sale this
summer.
