2011 Scion TC Review
Kelsey: Hi, I’m Kelsey Mays for Cars.com. Front-wheel drive, sports
Coupes sort of have their day back in the 90s and early 2000s but
we’re at the Chicago Auto Show checking out one that stuck
around. This is the 2010 Scion TC. It’s the release edition 6.0
meaning it’s effectively the sixth special edition of this car since it
came out for the 2005 model year. We’re going to check out what
makes the Release Series so unique.
The Release Series 6.0 has a speedway blue paint job and I
actually think the TC has aged pretty well. The rear is kind of
dressed down. There’s not a lot going on back there but the
headlights, the grille, the front bumper, they all look kind of sharp
and for a car in its sixth year on the market, that’s pretty cool.
Inside, you get the same blue themes across the seats and the
leather steering wheel wrapping. Scion’s only making 1100 of
these and there’s a little plaque here above the stereo readout that
shows you which exactly of the 1100 you got. Below it, there’s an
Alpine stereo system with a touch screen navigation unit. I’ve
never been a huge fan esthetically of this sort of aftermarket
looking stereos. This one gets the job done but the button is kind of
small and the NAV system is really pretty small as well. That said
“you do get a lot of cool little touches”. Things like one touch
power windows and this dual paint—up here. The dashboard and
doors have this nice attractive sort of horizontal grain across and
even the window pillars are upholstered. There’s a lot of cost
cutting going on the cars these days and sometimes you got to go
back to a car that’s been on the market for a long time like the TC,
sort of to see what it once was.
The TC is one of the oldest models in Toyota’s lineup. And Toyota
builds Scion, Toyota and Lexus cars. The good news is that
because of that in three separate suppliers, the TC actually isn’t
involved in Toyota’s current unintended acceleration recalls. The
bad news is since it’s such an old car, it’s still one of the remaining
single models in the entire Toyota Scion and Lexus lineup but it
doesn’t have an electronic stability system.
