Football Done Right
Efficient, Effective Coaching Methods and Strategies
Hi and Welcome to Football Done Right an interactive coaching website done for
coaches by coaches. My name is Coach Matt Stern and today we’re going to be going
over a three cone drill used for changing direction and reaction in developing quickness
and agility in our athletes. Now player one and player two positioned at the center cone. I
have three cones in front of him labeled cone one, cone two and cone three. At my signal
player one, getting to start to chop his feet, I’m going to be yelling out numbers one, two,
or three.
When I yell at a number players get a sprint to that corresponding cone, break his feet
down change direction and go right back to the start cone. I’ll call out numbers and get
him to react spraying to each cone individually and always returning to the start cone.
Again, this drill is good for speed, agility and changing direction of an athlete. On my
queue player one will start to chop his feet. Player one ready, set, one! Two! Three! One!
Three! At the breakout player will go from the corresponding cone of the number that I
called out and sprint through the start cone.
Player two will continue through now. Player two ready, three! One! Two! Get up; get up
run, run, run. Two! Three! One! One! Breakout sprint, sprint, good, as you can see
players continually sprinting breaking down their feet dropping pad level and changing
directions and continuing the sprint. This is a very easy drill to do during conditioning
period, during agility period to develop player’s foot speed, quickness, change of
direction and reaction.
