Hi I’m Betty, welcome to Betty’s Kitchen. I’ve made a couple of recipes recently that are of popcorn.
I’ve got caramel popcorn and chocolate popcorn and my intention was for you to have a nice snack. If
you like to do something like that while you’re watching football on TV or you’ve got a bunch of people
coming over and you want to have it for a party or if you’re watching a movie at home, it’s really just the
right thing to eat. But that’s kind of leaving out all of you people who eat popcorn in order to watch
your calories so I’ve got something for you. I’ve got three things for you today. I’m taking just a small
bowl of popcorn as an example but you would probably use a larger bowl to mix all this up and so you
probably would use a large spoon. I’ll probably be using my hands a lot here. What I’m going to do is
take popped corn and you may just go away right here and get the kind of microwave popcorn that I use
with – the corn that is popped downstairs in our movie theater popcorn popper but probably you’ll want
the recipe with the microwave popcorn and I use that a lot too. So I want to tell you about the –. This is
the kind of popcorn that I usually get. On the front it says, 94% fat free and it’s really important to me
to look at the side and see how many calories it is per popped cup. In this case, it’s only 15 calories per
popped cup. You can get other kind of microwave popcorn. If you even look at the side and you get
movie theater popcorn or butter popcorn, you will be surprised at how many calories you’re getting and
you’re thinking you’re eating diet food. So with this again, it’s very low in calories, 15 calories per
popped cup so if you could eat four cups worth and only get 60 calories. So we don’t want to load it
down with a lot more calories so here’s what we’re going to do.
With our popcorn, I’m just going to take just like a small serving. I’m going to take one bowl and flavor it
up in one way and then I’ll do a second way and a third way so you all have some options here. I used a
parquet spray which has-it is fat free and it has zero trans fats. So it allows me to have a base here that
tastes like butter and has a consistency of butter on your popcorn. So we start by just spraying that, it’s
very easy and you probably should just spray it lightly. It’s zero calories, if you just spray it lightly, I don’t
know what it would be if you just filled it half full but then it wouldn’t be good, it would be soaked. One
flavor that you will really enjoy is cheese. So if you want to get some cheese that you can shake, just go
to the spice section of your store and see if they have cheese that you can mix in. I don’t want to get my
fingers all messy so I’m going to borrow this spoon here and just stir it around a little bit but you can
flavor that up really nicely and feel like you’ve got some special popcorn there, cheese popcorn.
Something else you can do is in our second sample here, we start the same way. Give it a nice spray.
These will have a tendency to clog up in your refrigerator and you do store them around-I do store mine
in my refrigerator, you can stick them in the microwave but at very low power for just a few seconds and
that will clear that up, just spray it a little bit and then I’ve chosen something called garlic herb
seasoning flavor McCormick brand. I don’t know if you can find that necessarily but what you can do is
pick out something that you do like. Maybe an Italian blend and just kind of crush those dried herbs and
put them over the top and you’ll have sort of a pizza style or an Italian style flavor.
But what we have here, I’m just going to pop the top open and shake and then it needs to be dispersed
a little bit, so with a spoon, you can just stir that around and that’s going to be a wonderful flavor and
you won't feel like you’re missing out on anything because you have a nice flavored popcorn. In fact the
aroma of that is already drifting up in the kitchen and it smells wonderful. For the sweet tooth in you,
something that’s not going to be so bad on your calories is to just use a little bit of brown sugar and
shake some cinnamon into it. So you start out as usual by spraying with your butter spray, remember
zero calories as long as you keep it lightly sprayed and it gives something for your flavors to hold on to.
I’m sure you can get all sorts of ideas yourself. They don’t have to be these three and you’ll probably
think of some things that are more inventive. But I’ve got some brown sugar in here, probably a quarter
of a cup, it doesn’t matter, just some to start with and sprinkle some cinnamon, whatever you think
you’d like and just use your hand here, you can use a spoon but this is more of a think that you crumble
together and then you want to control the amount, you don’t want to put too much of the sugar in
there or else you’ll be putting all the calories back in and then stir it, you might want to do that with
your hand or with a spoon. I think I’m going to use just a little bit more here to get the full flavor. But
that will be a nice plan for those of you that really like a little sweet with salty. So here you go, for all of
you people out there who are trying to stick to your diet. You’re seeing all these other people that are
having popcorn with their special toppings, you can have popcorn with your special topping which might
be a cheese topping, or an herb seasoned topping or a brown sugar and cinnamon topping.
