(Music playing)
What is up everyone, Mike Johnson here at the Drumline School of Drumming. Today we are going to be working on some 30 second note fills and I will put this still level of this kind of writing between intermediate and advance. The intermediate part of it is that there are simple patterns and they are all even numbers two, some four, some sixes. The advance part would be the speed, it is going to be kind of quick because we are just playing is just 30 second notes.
I intermediate(ph) one is figure out the system for this as so that you can make up your own fills, your are going to have just copy what I do or what somebody does. So the system we are going to use is a certain number of sticks either two, four or six with out hands, so two would just be right left, four, right, left, right, left and six right, left, right, left, right, left. After every grooving of our hands there we got to always put in two bass drums. So if I did two, two, four, four you will be.
(Demo and counting)
Alright, so that way if I say two, two, four, four now you know what to do. Alright, so the first fill we are going to do is.
(Demo and counting)
Alright, so let us try that out, we will go really slowly just between the snare and the bass drum.
(Demo)
Alright, so once you feel that you have that then what we want to do is put that before we start moving it on the kick, we want to put that in the time. Okay, we are going to play one most of a basic rock beat and a really slow tempo and then we are going to play that, it is going to be as 30 second notes. So our beat is.
(Counting)
The 32 notes will be.
(Demo)
Or we will play that two, two, four, four, two, two, four and they will fit in the one that you have 32 notes.
(Demo)
Alright, so now let us take that same fill and speed it up just a little bit.
(Demo)
Alright, now we have the speed on, our last step is to move it around the drum set. Try not to think in terms of hearing the snare, the tom, and the cymbals, just think of that pattern.
(Demo)
In that way you will not get confused when you hear different sounds so let us move it around the drum set a little bit.
(Demo)
Alright, so now it is just up to you to come up with combinations that you like and that sounds good to you. Hope you guys got some of that, we will see you next time.
