This is Todd Ogasawara, MobileAppsToday.com and I borrowed my daughter’s new 4th Generation iPod Nano – Spoken Menus, which is a new feature for the iPod Nano 4th Generation. You need to turn it on from iTunes 8 and it seems to transfer some files, presumably some text to speech stuff.
As you can see when it’s – it does is playback or speak the actual menu items. It does a pretty good job pronouncing names too. But it does have some problems with non-English names. And another example of non-English name problem. That should be Utada Hikaru.
But otherwise, I’m very impressed by how it does the text to speech with menus, song titles, and artist names. I think it’s pretty useful even if you’re not visually impaired, for example if you’re in an airplane with your eyes half-closed and you want to go through your iPod’s menu to choose a song or something, a podcast or whatever. It’s a very handy feature. I’m thinking about picking one up now before I take a trip out next week.
That’s it, Todd Ogasawara, MobileAppsToday.com. See you next time.
