Today is a going to be a special show. I am super, super excited about today’s episode of eight ways on how to get the most out of these lessons.
First one is of course starting at the right time, how long is too young and too old to play? The answer is it is never too late to start playing. I started playing when I was 16. When should you start playing? The answer is now.
Number two, take private lessons on learning a specific instrument. This is huge guys. Just think of the extra steps. Sign up, and after three months, you will be back ready. I love this line. “Look up and play it thoroughly.” Always keep your head up. Chin up guys, chin up.
Number three, when you learn something, you do not just take it in. Teach it to someone. When you play something forward – I guarantee you – you will get it back. I guarantee it. You will not truly learn something unless you can teach it to someone. So if you learned something, apply it to what you know and try another song using that technique. Try to learn song writing. But do not stop there. Keep sharing it to someone. Plug and play, and then try to teach arpeggios. And if your guy understands it, then you can do a good job of explaining it. And if you could not explain it well, then you did not really know it. You did not really internally get it. But that is okay. Keep teaching it. Keep learning it and play it forward.
Number four is to make practicing easier. You got to do it. And why not? I have so much fun practicing. The trick is to learn songs you enjoy. To play instruments you love and to be around friends that you identify with. Those three things tend to circle. When you love the music you play and you love the instrument you play, and you love the people that you are around, you learn it that much quickly. You keep each other’s things. You want to do it everyday because when you are playing guitar with your friends, you are actually getting better and you do not realize it. And that is what makes it really, really fine. There are two parts of this, time and repetition. You can get a lot more done in just a typical guitar practice. At 30 minutes, just dedicate it. Repetition is the second thing about practicing. You have a 20-minute practice, make it 30 or 40 minutes and that is it. Everyday it is done, pack it away for another day. Master them over the course of a week or a month or whatever and then you can go through the next day.
Number five is internet and research. The amount of research out there is absolutely amazing. Try to take a little bit from your friends. Take a little bit from this internet site. Take a little bit from my videos. Take a little bit from wherever you can. And then when you start picking these pieces from everything, you start building up more characters, techniques, style and the knowledge or maybe your friends might not know something that you know. So then you teach them and then they teach you their things and then go back and forth. When you play something that you do not know, call your friends. Go on a forum. Try on my website or somewhere. This one is huge and it blends in to everyone about every lesson and every other video from the lessons right here in this video. If you know something, then play it forward. I just taught all day. I taught hundreds of students’ everyday. You know that new scale that we are learning today where we spent hours on? Teach it to your friend, really internalize it, and only then are you able to teach it to someone. That is how you will confidently know the level of whether you know something or not, it is when you can teach it or not. And if you are nervous or unsure about it, then that means that you are not confident in what you have learned. So stand tall and just smile because you do know it. So prove it to me. Teach it to somebody.
Number seven, why do I love this one? Have fun. When you are having fun and you are passing down something you truly love to do whether to music or whatever it is in life, you got to have fun with it. It shows in your practicing. It shows in your performance. That does not ju
