Hi, this is Michael E. Callahan Dr. File Finder and welcome to part three of our special Butterscotch.com ten part series on Ubuntu.
Now in this segment we’re going to look at customization of Ubuntu and this is Ubuntu 9.04 we have a download link available on the show notes. By the way there are many things you can customize about Ubuntu. In this segment we’re going to talk about appearance so we click on system, preference and I click on appearance. Now there are themes where you can change the general feel of the program click into a different themes, select the theme that appears to you.
You can also change the background this shows you the one that currently selected and you can use backgrounds of your own. You can pick solid colors, horizontal gradient, vertical gradient; you can add and remove backgrounds. You can also change the font and the font sizes. This particularly handy in case you're having difficulty seeing your screen or aspects of your screen. You can change the desktop font to a font that appeals to your more and the size that easier to read.
In the interface you can have at show icons in menus, you can have and have editable menus shortcut keys and you can decide whether the text is below items beside items whether you have icons only or text only. Right here it gives you a preview of what it looks like. Icons only, text only, text beside the items and so on and then visual effects there are full range of visual effects available in Ubuntu up to an including 3D effects for what you need a faster graphics card.
So these are just some of the ways that you can customize the appearance and functionality of Ubuntu and that concludes part three.
