Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to part seven or our special butterscotch.com 10 part series on Ubuntu.
Now, on this segment, we’re going to look at some of the general software that comes with Ubuntu. We’ve covered the Internet software and the Email software but there is so much more that comes packaged right with Ubuntu. And to give you a feeling for just how much comes with it, I'm going to open some of them as I mention them. So, under applications and accessories, you get to calculator. You get a DVD creator. You get a character map. You get a disk usage analyser. You also get ability to manage print jobs, a way to manage your passwords and encryption keys. You can take screen shots and go into terminal mode, you get a text editor and you get a note program, and that’s just under accessories. So, a whole screen full of programs all absolutely free, all open source and all come right with Ubuntu when you install it. We’ll go into games in another segment.
Under graphics, you have a photo manager. You have GIMP, the image editor that’s excellent for manipulating graphics and photos. You have OpenOffice drawing program. And you have insane image scanning program. Under Office, you get a dictionary. You get OpenOffice presentations, spread sheet and word processor, all things that are compatible with Microsoft Office. And under sound and video, you get a disk burner, a movie player, a music player and a sound recorder. So, you get all these volumes of software all free, all excellent, all frequently updated and it all comes with Ubuntu. And it's there when you install the operating system.
So, this is the General Software that comes with Ubuntu. That concludes part seven.
