I am Steve Turrano. Welcome to this episode of Body Performance. Today I am going to pick on personal trainers and weight loss and physical fitness specialists. I can do that because I am one of them.
You know there is no governing body certifying personal trainers for the level of education they need. Now if you are a lawyer, you have to pass the bar. If you are a doctor, you need to pass your boards or be board certified. If you are a personal trainer all you have to do is pass some tests offered by some company saying that they will make you a personal trainer. They send you a certification, a plaque and there you go.
Now if they made becoming a personal trainer really difficult like advanced courses in college or professional school, nobody would do it. It would be so damn difficult and companies would not make any money.
So you see becoming a personal trainer is kind of like getting your driver’s license. When you are 16, you can go down to the court house and get you driver’s license. Now your driver’s license is just like the 40 or 50 year old driver’s license. But let me ask you, who knows more about driving, the 16 year old or the 50 year old?
Now the sixteen year old will tell you, “I know about driving. I drive better than anybody else. I played it on Xbox and Nintendo.” Same with personal trainers, once somebody gets their personal trainer’s certificate, they are now a world renowned expert.
Now can remember this, if your personal trainer does not look the way you want to look, then maybe you should not hire him. If he is not lean or if he does not have muscles or if he is not quite in the shape you want to be in maybe they do not understand what they are doing. If they cannot create that for themselves, how are they going to create that for you?
I do not take golf lessons from somebody who does not play better than me. That is the way fitness should be that is the way your personal trainers should be.
Love your body. I will see you next time.
