Guide to the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Host: The outback in Great Barrier Reef provide stunning landscapes, technicolored wild life and quirky local traditions for any on land or sea. Although usually thought of as a dessert, Australia’s outback has a diverse landscape. It is home to magical waterfalls, lakes and mangroves along with millions of hectares of dessert.
The outback covers a huge portion of Australia. It has no measurable beginning or end. So nobody knows its exact size but it covers roughly the same are as India. The outback is a favorite destination for tourists but it can be harsh and unforgiving to people who are unprepared. One animal that has settled well into the outback is the camel. In 1838, camels were introduced to the Australian desert by Afghan immigrants.
Male: It’s one of the things that we had read about, about the camels being brought in and I wanted experience that.
Host: The climate is so perfect for camels that Australia now has the highest camel population in the world. Numbers are said to have reached almost one million. But when it comes to distributing medical attention, camels just won’t cut it. The Royal Flying Doctor Service was established in 1928 to assist geographically isolated patients. The service is constantly evolving.
Male: We’ve got a look at the aviation environment and obviously with patient changes differentials. We may have to alter out management and to restrict cabin pressures if required for the types of injuries that the patients have.
Host: The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides comprehensive year round healthcare. One of the highlights of any tourist adventure to Australia has got to be encountering native animals. Australia’s distinctive climate and isolation from the rest of the world means it sheltered many species not found anywhere else. From lizards and crocodiles to wild birds and snakes, Australia has unique wildlife.
In the words of great Australian poet Dorothy McHeller, the outback truly is a land of sweeping planes, or raged mountain ranges, of jots and flooding rains all rolled into one.
For those who prefer water to land, the Great Barrier Reef has got to be the ultimate playground. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world for a good reason. It has over 2900 individual reefs, it’s home to 1500 species of fish and it’s year round warm water means it’s always a perfect time to scuba dive. Tourist can take boats, go diving, or snorkel on the reef. The pleasures that wait include whales, sea turtles and all the colorful tropical fish you can find. Snorkeling is a great way to see the reef because it allows you to get close to the fish without feeling any danger.
Tourist on boat trips offers the chance to witness marine life from a safe distance. It can also be educational.
Male: By coming out on a tourist vessel because of this one it’s probably the only way a lot of these people actually are ever going to see the reef. So by coming out here we hope that we can give them a great experience, educate them somewhat as to what the reef is, what it is all about and how it works. And through that education hopefully comes some understanding and through the understanding comes the desire to protect it and look after it.
Host: The Great Barrier Reef has come under threat due to coral bleating, which is a result of rising water temperatures. It has been listed as a place to visit sooner rather than later. So don’t wait around, book your trip to Great Barrier Reef today.
