A Guide to DJ Equipment
On behalf of TvLesson.com, my name is Eric Roman otherwise known as DJ Empire. In this clip I’m going to show you how to understand different equipment that you find in your standard DJ Booth. Right here we have your standard CD players in this case these are actually DVD Players they’re Pioneers. Pretty expensive, not my favorite but they do a great job. I prefer the CD players over the DVD players. If you come on in closer here, you’ll look that you have your platter which is touch sensitive which can be used for scratching, you have your play button and you cue button which can be a little fragile on these players particularly especially the Pioneer line in general.
I found that there’s other product that are better at putting quality buttons. You have your pitch response. You have your different pitch bends. You can have a higher grade or a lower grade. We have the rain mixer which I’ve just recently started using, very nice mixer, little pricey but the great thing is it has a built in USB interface for a program called “Serato.” There are many mixers out there that use different software that can be programmed to work with any software and then we have finally here, my computer that I have as you could see, Serato Scratch Live, one of the most popular names and the reason I choose this one is because it’s the most reliable one. It’s becoming industry standard and it does what it does perfectly whereas other ones do have a lot of Belgian whistles but tend to crash or be unreliable, inconsistency on how well they perform.
Some players have DVD capabilities, other players are just CD Players and then you have your standard turn tables. The biggest ones that you have out in market right now are Technique 1200’s which have never changed in the past, I think 30 years that they’ve been out and there’s a reason for that they’re very stable and very well-made. You could choose the equipment that suits your needs and how it’s operated as all different. So always be sure to read your instruction manuals when you first buy your equipment because you never know what surprises will hold you when you’re playing with your players.
