These are the certain Yoga stuff today. And, a lot of stuff you are hearing Yoga is about alignment and if you maintain the proper alignment, then you will be safe. So, I will just demo few things and show you what to keep in mind in terms of alignment in order to not hurt yourself.
So, the easiest place to learn alignment is in standing poses. So, I will demo, you have to adjust in it to warrior to posture. So, what is really important here is to know what is at risk and what is at risk in this posture is the knee and the low back. Very common areas for people to have injuries, very common places that is going to be injures in this posture. What is really important is to make sure that your body is stocked properly and you are not placing undue stress on any particular area and the way to do that is to make sure your knee is over your ankle in this posture. And, to make sure that you are not arching your low back too much, make sure maintaining natural curve in your low back.
Typically, what happened to these people who are not flexible enough to make themselves look like the photos they see. So, they try and do some shape that they say in a Yoga journal or something right and they end up hurting themselves because their body is not built the same way as the person that was in that photo.
So, you have to know where you are bending from, you have to know how your body stocked and if you ever feel any pain, you just stop, you back off, that is rule number one actually, is if it hurts, do not do it. So, again, warrior to knees stocked over at the ankle, you are not overarching your low back, it is a nice natural curve.
Another thing that people typically do is if they are let us say standing in the middle of the room with their arms overhead, which is very common in Yoga, they might really arch their lower backs because they see people moving their hands behind their headlock. In Yoga, you are not supposed to try and look like the photos. This is a shoulder opener and that means you have to move from your shoulders, do not move from your low back. So, if you cannot get your arms behind your ears, then, you cannot get your arms behind your ears. You do not arch your back. Maintain the natural curve in your spine pretty much all the time.
Another common thing is repetitive stress injury. So, the certain things we do in Yoga classes over and over and over again. You want to make sure that you are doing it in a really safe manner. An example would be is sun salutation where you see this kind of motion a lot.

And when you move from that motion, again, you want to make sure that you are not overarching in your spine here. You want to make sure that you are not over flexing in your wrist here. So, elbow over wrist, 90-degree angle between the forearm and upper arm and you will be nice and safe.
