Everyone loves chocolate and most choco lovers really love the most extravagant type of chocolate out there and that is the delicious Chocolate Truffle.
Here is a simple guide to information and helpful tips that you can use when you are out there enjoying a truffle.
Truffles are a type of chocolate confection and they usually have ganache center and are coated in chocolate or sometimes just coco powder. They tend to come in spherical shape, cone shape or a curved shape and all sorts of other fillings can come inside.
Everything from cream to melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, berries, almonds, all sorts of sweet fruits, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, chocolate chips, marshmallow, and quite often liquor.
Now the shape is really important because the truffle is actually named after the fungus the “truffle” which is even more expensive and some would say more delicious than the chocolate truffle, but that is another video.
Now, there are three main types of chocolate truffles. Their all differentiated but their country of origin. There is American, European, and Swiss.
The American Truffle is half egg shaped, chocolate coated and it comes when a mixture of dark or milk chocolates and the milk chocolate tends to have more butterfat, in some cases hardened coconut oil.
Mr. Joseph Smith, who was a San Francisco chocolatier and founder of Joseph Smith Confections, is credited with creating this truffle in the mid 80’s. A Canadian variation of this known is the Harvey Truffle includes Graham cracker crumbs and peanut butter.
Now, the European Truffle is made with syrup and a base of coco powder, milk powder, fats and other ingredients to create an oil and water type emulsion. Now the Swiss Truffle is made by combining melted chocolate into a boiling mixture of dairy cream and butter which is then poured in the molds to set before it sprinkled with coco powder.
Unlike the other two kinds of truffles, these are the very short shelf life, and they must be consumed within a few days of making. But I will tell you what, it is worth it.
