Founded by Julius Caesar in 59 B.C. for his veteran soldiers. Today the city is a leading tourist attraction for places such as the infamous Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Ponte Vecchio, the Arno, and the Piazza della Republica, amongst many other historic and beautiful locations.
With a population of over 1 million people, Florence has become a well-known location for trade and finance within Europe. The summer heat reaches approximately 88 degrees Fahrenheit in July and August, and winter brings daytime highs of an estimated 50 degrees Fahrenheit. For a taste of history, stop by the Pitti Palace on the southside of the Arno River, and the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, both of which have ties with the Medici family.
As for historic museums, the Institute and Museum of History and Science provides a great deal of activities, information, and fun for all ages. As for everyday fun, the city is nowhere near lacking in stores and boutiques to shop in. Outdoor art activities or beautiful architecture that can be appreciated by people of any age.
