A Walking Tour of Olympia, Washington

Hi! This is Marc Weiner of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. And welcome to Olympia, the capital of Washington State and one our Best Cities for 2009. The city is dominated by the states 287 foot tall capital a symbol of Olympia’s main economic driver government. But Olympia is more than that. Walk through downtown for a sample of the eclectic and creative local on businesses from bakeries, clothing boutiques to trendy art galleries, theatres and night clubs offer something for everyone. You can even pair under the future at this psychic reading shop. Speaking of the future, three local colleges keep Olympia youthful and vibrant. The clean air, miles of hiking and biking trails and friendly late back community are added pluses. Here’s another plus, the Olympia farmer’s market where you can buy fresh food from local farmers. After you shop, walk over to the Budd Bay Café for some of Olympia’s finest seafood. Their specialty blackened Salmon. I also recommend their New England Clam Chowder. Carnival comes to Olympia in the spring with the precession of the species.

Olympians march through downtown, dressed up as—well, just about anything to celebrate earth day and the beginning of the spring. The precession is part of the City’s art’s walk festival where local artist exploit their works and store windows while musicians, dancers and even flame throwers deals with some 15,000 locals and tourists.
