Well, I would recommend if you want strong abs, to do exercises that don't hurt your back is to see a physical therapist and get a supervised core strengthening program. There are some very simple ab exercises that you can do without harming your back. They include things like pelvic tilts, like legs lowering exercises, and not this traditional situp. And you can get a great ab workout with just doing those kind of things.
