Alright, I am going to show you a how easy it is in Ableton to assign your knobs from your controller. A keyboard note from your controller keyboard or a letter note like a Q or W from your basic keyboard and the first thing we are going to do is to assign a knob. If you want to assign a knob, let us say we want to assign a knob here, put this pad in, what I would need to do is turn on the midi button right here and then you are going to click on whatever it is that you want to control, it could be this, it could be anything but we are going to work with the pad in and then you are gong to move your knob, there you go they recognized it and then you simply turn off the midi and then when you move the knob, it is going to move back and forth. So it is easy as that.
Let us go ahead and assign a key, a note key on your controller keyboard that is pretty easy to do as well. You just simply hit midi, click on what you want and normally you are going to want to use it for things you are going to turn on and off because obviously, you are not going to be able to create much more movement so, I am going ahead and click in this, this will affect whether it is activated or muted. I hit the key on the keyboard it recognizes it as C2. I go ahead and turn midi off and now every time I hit it, it is going to alternate between on and off. It is as easy as that.
Now, if I want to assign a letter or a number from my keyboard that is pretty easy to do too. You are just going tot urn this little keyboard icon off which means, whether you are using keys for the keyboard you are not going to be able to use notes from your controller keyboard. So turn this off and then you just hit key and then we will go ahead and click the same thing and all assign it to a cue. You see the cue come up right here and just like before you could turn that off and whenever I hit the Q, it is going to turn that on and off.
Then you can do that with a number of things, for example let us go and put an effect in here real quick. EQ3, Okay. So we got a few controls here. If you wanted to we could simply turn on our midi and assign three different controls, I clicked on the first one, move the knob click on the second one, move another knob, click on the third one, move another knob. If I want to I could say assign a key on the keyboard to L, and now we got that. Go ahead and turn that off and our key controls are low being in and out and our other knobs all control the EQ.
So, it is a lot of fun to work with. Hope you enjoy it.
