Hi! My name is Nate Savage and in this particular lesson, we’re going to be talking about Acoustic or Electric. We’re going to try to give you some guidelines that I hope we could pick which guitar you want to go with if you’re a beginner.
I worked at a music store for 4 ½ years. And on some—like some weekends some Saturday, I could sell up to 12 guitars in a day. And always have people coming in and asking, “Should I start on acoustic or should I start with an electric?” And the answer that I most of the time give them is, “You should go with the one that you like most” Because if you like it more, you’re going to play more which means you’re going to get better and faster.
If you like rock, metal stuff like that, you should probably go with an electric. If you’re more into folk, blue grass, maybe some country stuff, you should probably go with an acoustic. Now there’s an advantage to each one that you should be aware of before you make your final decision.
If you have an acoustic guitar, the cool thing about that is, is you can take it anywhere with you and you can take it to on the beach or to your friends house so you can play songs and sing, and you don’t need any amplification or any electricity. So that’s one really big advantage to your acoustic guitar.
The advantage of the electric guitar is it gives you a rock out a little more. It gives a play of metal and of rock and blues and all those kind of fun things that are a little bit better if you like more aggressive music.
So go to your music store, pick one of each one up, play it at several times if you have. And then make your decision based on what you think you’re going to like more, and what you think you’re going to enjoy more as far as what style of music that you are into.
