I believe acting can be pretending just like when you play as a child. It is as honest as child's play. One commits oneself to the action. The lack of 'truefullness' in an actors performance often comes from a conscious or unconscious self-awareness and from also the demonstrating of the proposed action. It can feel real for moments of performance but it isn't so therefore something has to be pretending.

Welcome to WatchMojo.com. My name is Chantria and today I'll be talking a little bit about acting, and the three most important misconceptions of acting. The first one I would say is that most people think its pretending. Really it comes from a truthful place you are play a character in a different situation, yes. It maybe in a different time but because you’re playing that character everything has to come from within, everything has to come from some more truthful. So for example, if you need to be angry, you can't just play the angry. You have to play why you're angry, where it comes from and that anger is really truthful. That’s why a lot of actors have sort of like calm down and breath and be themselves afterward because they’re such in the moment. When kids play, they themselves believed that for example they're being pirates but in their heads they are really pirates and they're committed to those characters and they speak for their parents for example they still keep that character of being pirates and that’s when it’s really is just acting is just being committed to a situation to a character.
