Ethan: Hi! My name is Ethan from Cocoa, Florida. I would like to know, are there chemicals in cigarettes that make you more addicted to them than just nicotine? Laura Bierut: Well, Ethan there are many, many chemicals in cigarettes, but it is felt that nicotine is the chemical in cigarettes that is the most addictive component and we know that through many studies and with the low nicotine cigarettes that we have seen that people have a lot of problems with those, because they don't have the nicotine it in, so they go through withdraw. So many of the treatments for stopping smoking, involve replacing the nicotine through the patch or gum.
