Hi! I’m Dave Epstein. This is Growing Wisdom. And you know one of our section on this site is perennial, so I want to talk about this perennial, this particular perennial anemone, and you might think, wait a second, doesn’t that belong in the ocean. But actually these are anemones, they are plants. And I’ve got one in the landscape here, probably not the best placed plant, it’s in front of the Joe-Pye weed which has gotten very overgrown for the past several years. Tons of bees all over this guy, so probably we have to move that into a sunnier spot, which brings me talk to you about these particular plants.
Two varieties I want to talk about, this particular variety is September charm, this is queen charlotte. Very similar in color, both pink, but we have a single flower and a double flower. The single flower basically is just one single layer of petals, the double flower has two layers of petals both have the yellow eye, or the yellow center. These would love to be in the sunshine, they really do well and the great thing about them is that they are later bloomer, so if you’re looking for perennial that blooms late August in to September, these will bloom for a long time. They will also spread, so over time, you know, if you we’re doing this, say, ten years, from now, this is going to be a huge area 5, 6, 8 feet across just from this one plant. So put it somewhere, where it can spread, have some sunshine, take good care of it, and these plants will reward you for years to come. Again, these are anemones, September charm, queen charlotte. Two choices, or perhaps, you want to get both.
