Hi. This is Chris from VitaminCM.com and today we are going to be working with some alternatives for Adobe Acrobat. Now, Adobe Acrobat works with PDF files which are great. There are many, many reasons why they are a good file format to use. However, the Adobe Acrobat Reader Tool is just a piece of garbage. It is slow. It is buggy. It takes forever to open up. It has got all kinds of issues with it.
Well, we have a whole bunch of options here that are going to allow you to do just about anything you want with PDF files without having to use that horrible Adobe Acrobat Software. So, the first one I want to talk about is reading Adobe Acrobat files. If you have ever tried to open up a PDF file and it takes forever for Adobe Acrobat to run and load, you are not alone. It is just terrible and it does that to everybody.
This is a piece of software called Foxit, PDF reader, which will allow you to reopen up PDF files and read them and it does not have a lot of heavy garbage going on that slow down your system. It is just a really nice piece of software. You can get it from foxitsoftware.com/downloads and what I want to get is the Foxit Reader.2.2. So, I will click that, save the file, and when it is done I will open it up and begin installing it.
So it is a pretty simple wizard, just click Next, Next again, agree to the License Agreement and I am just going to say Default and install it. And as if you want to make it your default PDF reader, I would suggest that you do this and you will see why in a minute. So, we are going to run Foxit Reader. And when it opens up, it looks pretty much like Adobe Acrobat Reader. It has just got its own little toolbar and everything but aside from that, it is the same thing.
Now, here is what I am going to show you. I have a folder on my desk open and it has got a couple of Word Documents in it, so it has got a PDF file on it. Now, if you look at this PDF file, it is a pretty large document. It is an eBook that I have. I am going to right click on it and say Open With, Foxit Reader and it opens up pretty quickly. Now, what is even more amazing, if you go down here and look, this is not like a one-page document. If you look down here, this is a 1700-page eBook that opened up like lightning quick. If you try to do that in regular Adobe Reader, you probably wait at around forever, so it is just a really nice tool to use.
