Now, we are going to start out this lesson by working in the same project file as the previous one. I have got it open here, you can see it is project 02 Interface.aep and we currently have a composition open and its timeline down here. We actually want to start with nothing open.
So, we come up to the pop up menu here at the top of the composition panel and let us go down and choose close intro clip. So, we are just closing the current clip which will leave us now with a more blank interface. Now, we have already seen that they are compositions inside this project and what we are going to do is look it at different ways we can create our own.
Now, there are roughly five different ways we can actually do that and each one will get us a slightly different result. So, the most obvious way to actually create a brand new composition is simply to go up to the composition menu here at the top and go down and choose new comp.
Now, there is a keyboard shortcut for that as well, “Command+N” or “Ctrl+N” on the PC but as soon as you go ahead and choose that, it will bring out the composition settings dialog box. Now, in here we can automatically apply and name to the comp before we even create it. But more importantly down here, you have all these standard presets that you would expect to see in our video program.
So, if you click and hold on here, you have a whole list of all the standard MT/FC/DVD and power DV option, widescreen, as well as square pixel, and standard rectangular pixels. But further down the list, you also have access to much more up to date HDV and HDTV resolution compositions and if you work your way further down to the very bottom of the list, you also see there our film resolution presets as well.
Now if at some reason, one of these presets is not the one that you actually need, you can quite easily come over and key in your own values right here for the width and height. Also, specifying the pixels aspect ratio according to what you actually need and then also, a custom frame rate if you needed to do that as well.
Now, just below that you can set the default resolution for the files. Full resolution means that is viewing perfectly clear on screen when you see the comp in the background but even you switch it to half or a different quality here, you can always switch it back to full when the composition is open. So, this is just its beginning point.
But underneath that you also have where the time code is going to begin. If you do need a clip to have a time code that possibly continues from another composition you are working on, you can do this right here but very importantly you have the actual duration of the entire composition. And this is one of them where it is you can change the time later on. You can always pull up this dialog box once the comp has been created.
Now, there are two tabs inside this window as well. We are currently looking at the basic tab and you can click across to the advance one in the background which gives you the ability to change such things as the anchor point, if you were to adjust the physical size of the composition. Very much like you would in Photoshop when you are using the canvass size feature but you can also effect the shutter angle to increase or decrease the amount of motion blur.
There are few things in here regarding 3D and open GL that we can touch on a little bit later on. The most of things that we need to look at are over here under the basic tab. Now, I am just going to leave this set to a standard NTSC-DV composition for awhile and go ahead and click “OK”.
Now two things will happen when we do that. First off, you will see a new composition has appeared here inside the project window. This is where they are stored and we have also now activated that composition by default and it is here in the comp window and its timeline.
Now, you will also notice by default that the background color of any composition is in fact black. Now, this means you can render anything out that would show up on that black background but in essence the black is actually transparent. If y
