Now, as well as the main number, I also mention that you have something called the “layer name”.
Now, we currently seen something called the “source name” and what you are really seeing is the original name of the source footage that is being used to populate this layer.
If we come up here and look inside the Photoshop files, you can see that Photoshop documents Tall 1/Silhouette.psd is being used here as Tall 1/Silhouette.PSD.
But in this case, the Photoshop file has been specifically been names to make it easy to see of what which silhouette is that.
I know that silhouette one is the guy with the white tie on; silhouette two is the woman standing on the left; and silhouette three is the woman sitting right on the right. I already know that because I created this graphics.
If you giving this files to someone else and you want them to understand which layer is which. You can actually rename layers because the source footage stays the same but you can also change the name of the physical layer itself.
To do that, it is very straight forward. Let us go ahead and select Tall 1/Silhouette.psd and simply hit return on the keyboard. Two things will happen. The texture becomes active, so we can know key in a new name but you will notice that the source name has now switch to layer name.
Now, if we just say change this name to man in tie and hit return to apply that. You can see that this one doesn’t have a square brackets around the outside of it. the other ones do because that tell us, this layer name is still the same as the source name.
You can still click at the top here to switch back and forth between the two. But any layer that you change the name of will loose this square brackets and then you have good control over the organization and understanding as to how the file was made up.
So, I'm going to select second silhouette here once again, hit return and change it to lady standing. Hit return to okay that. select the third one, once again return, and change that to lady sitting. So, very easy to change and adjust the layer names there and make it easier from this point on.
