Now if you look up in the Pages Palette on the upper-right hand side, you should notice the few different icons that weren't there before. This is because we now have a document opened. The first one is that we see Page 1 in the bottom section. Very importantly, see how small that icon is and that's one of the preferences that we changed earlier on. So we can now see many sets of pages inside this layout and that's what we will see a little bit later on. But we also have the master pages here at the top. We are going to look at those in just a second.
The first thing we want to do is generate this as a four-page brochure but with two two-page spreads. So what we will do first is let's add two extra pages. Now that can be done by clicking down here on the New Page icon at the bottom of the palette. Go ahead and click that once and again to create pages 2 and 3.
Now you will notice that first page in every document is always a right facing page. It's always considered as the cover and pages 2 and 3 will be a spread. If we come down here and click twice more to create pages 4 and 5, we now have two two-page spreads but we also have Page 1 still there and we want to get rid of that. It's not in every case that you are going to have a cover document.
Well, if we were to select this page now and actually get rid of it, this will cause problems because the page that's currently viewed here at page 2 which is a left hand page would automatically reconvert to take over where this one was. So it will become a right facing page. This right facing page will become a left facing page and all of a sudden your layout has gone completely haywire.
So there is an easier to get around this. If you come to the flyout menu here at the top of the palette, go down and choose the Allow Pages to Shuffle option, it's currently selected. What we are going to do by highlighting it is deselect it. That means that when we move these pages around, anything that is a spread will stay as a spread and not be changed around to be left or right side, unless we choose.
So what you can do now is come up and select the icon here for page 1 and simply click-and-drag it into the trash can here on the side of the Pages Palette. You will notice that pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 are still two-page spreads.
