Now we are going to go back to the main Icon View at this point in time and just back out one folder and open up the Camera Raw Images folder. In there you will see a file called Judge Center.crw, Camera Raw format. So this isn't a Photoshop document, it's been taken as a higher res digital photograph from a camera.
Now normally, the Camera Raw format was only openable inside Photoshop and it still is. It's still part of that realm. However, as a feature of Adobe Bridge, we can open and edit the Raw functions of this file without even going into Photoshop. Just select that graphic and if you look up under the File menu, there is a command called Open in Camera Raw. Keyboard shortcut is Command+R or Ctrl+R on the PC. So let's use that instead.
And if you have ever used Camera Raw inside Photoshop before, then this dialog box will be familiar to you. It's exactly the same one. Now we are going to make a couple of changes to the format of this file. The first thing is to check its size and make it slightly bigger than what we need. And that we are going to do down here at the bottom. You can see the current size of this file is 6.3 mega pixels that's the resolution that the image was taken at. But one of the coolest things about Raw format is, it's not being compressed or converted to real pixels at any point in time. Therefore, you can increase the size without losing too much image quality in interpolation. It will be different, if you took a Photoshop file and asked it to do the same. Almost double up in resolution.
So what we are going to do is push this up to around 11.2 which is just over 4,000 pixels wide, very large file format and we will also change the Finished Resolution here to around 300 that is print quality res. Now you will notice there is no shifting quality in the image, it's simply doing the interpolation. The very next thing we are going to do is come up here and change the Temperature.
So when this photograph was taken, the color adjustment may not have been quite right and we want to either make the shot look warmer or cooler and that's taken care of using the Temperature value. Now if the value over here of 4,150 is currently selected, you can use the Up and Down Arrow keys on the keyboard to increase that Temperature by 50 at one time and just every small amount you will see that the file is getting slightly warmer as we increase the numbers.
However, if you hold down the Shift key and hit the arrows, it will push up by 500 at a time. So basically ten times the amount by holding down that Shift key. So you can make this image as warm or as you go in the opposite direction, make it as cold as you want as well and it is not really affecting overall color and saturation that Filters would do, which ultimately destroy some of the pixels, this is simply changing the original temperature of the photograph. So very, very cool that we can do this.
Now I am going to go up to around 4600 on the Temperature. It makes it a very warm orange. And the reason for that is the background will become quite dark and we are going to place white type on this a little bit later on. But we have made our changes now of the Size, the Resolution, and the Temperature. If you look in the lower right-hand side, you have three options in this interface.
If we hit Save, what would happen is the settings will be applied and this document will be converted into a Photoshop file and dropped straight on the hard drive. We don't want to do that, because we do want to affect the overall size of the and make sure it's perfectly scaled to fit the size of our spread. But we could also hit Done, which will save the settings and just place the Camera Raw file back on the Desktop.
What we want to do however is simply click the Open button which you can see there. It applies the changes and opens the image immediately into Photoshop CS2 and then to avoid accidentally clicking into the outside here and going back into Bridge, let's just hit the F key once and that will center the Photoshop file in the background and also remove this ability to click outside. So it's kind of drawing a pasteboard in here for us.
