If you are continuing from the previous chapter just stay right where you are, but if you are jumping in here on Chapter 02, start by launching the Premiere Pro. We will be opening up a Project file that we will use in this chapter.
Select Option Project, then on your Desktop locate the Project Files folder. Go to Chapter 02, then double-click the Premiere Pro project Chapter 2.prproj. As you can see you are presented with a dialog. The first time you move a Premiere Pro project to a new machine, you need to tell Premiere Pro where the media is.
So let's navigate again to the Desktop then to the Project Files folder and now select the Media Files folder. We need to locate the clips for the interview. So click on the Interview Clips folder and if you look at the top of the dialog you can see it's asking for a specific file. So go ahead and click on the checkbox that says Display Only Exact Name Matches. This will highlight only the file that Premiere Pro is looking for.
And you will see the file is now revealed here in the dialog. So go ahead and select the file Exam.mov and then click the Select button. Premiere Pro now knows where the rest of the media is. You just need to locate that first file. And now so that you don't have to do that again with this project, go to the File menu and select Save.
Great now before we go any further, let's take a look at the Production Premium user interface. Most of the applications I am going to be teaching you in this training series use the same exact user interface you are seeing right here. It's called the docking panels interface. Go ahead and bring your cursor to where any of the two panels intersect. You might like to try here on the left side where I am in between the Project panel and the Source panel.
You will see your courser changes to show you that you can now click-and-drag left and right, go ahead and try it, just click-and-drag to the right to the left to resize any of the panels and the great thing is everything stays locked together. So we are never overlapping.
If you want to move any of the panels to another part of the interface for example we have might like some move our Source panel some place else. You will see that there are five little dots to the left of the name of the panel. Go ahead and click-and-drag on those five dots in the Source panels and without removing your finger from the mouse button drag around to see the different drop zones.
So you can position a panel wherever you want simply by dropping it in the appropriate drop zone. You can see the top, the left, the right, and the bottom and here in the middle that will simply nest that panel in whichever panel you are dropping it to. So let's all drag this Source panel over to the right and just hover it over the center drop zone on the Program panel and now release your mouse button and you can now see the Source panel is nested in with the Program panel.
There is an infinite variety of ways you can layout your interface. Now you can Save any layout of the interface as a workspace. Go to your Window menu and select Workspace. You will see that there are four preset workspaces that come included with Premiere Pro CS3. You can also create your own workspaces by selecting New Workspace.
But for now let's go ahead and select the Color Correction workspace. And you will see now the interface configures itself for color correction. Don't worry about what that means right now. Let's go back to the Window menu once again and select Workspace Editing. This is the default workspace for Premiere Pro.
One more hint about the user interface in Production Premium. Go ahead and click on the Program Monitor, you will see it nested here behind the Source Monitor and hit the Tilde key on your keyboard that's the little key to the left of the number one key. You will see now that that panel maximizes to fit the screen go ahead and hit the Tilde key on your keyboard once again and you can see now the panel goes back to its original size. This is a useful keyboard shortcut when you are working in any of the applications in Production Premium, because it lets you instantly make any panel full screen.
