Now, let's go back to the beginning of the Timeline once again, playback and look for the next bit we can cut out of this interview. Let's go ahead and pause. Now, let's try cutting from that first line he spoke to line that he says later on. We're actually going to extract a whole piece from the middle of this clip. So let's go ahead and rollback; we want to find the part where he ends his first statement.
We're going to want to cut it out where he begins that second sentence. So let's just rollback a little bit before, and playback. Okay, so the whole idea is after he says, how comfortably they live, we're going to set an in point to start extracting. So let's go ahead and find that exact spot. Again, use your J, K and L keys to find it.
Right about there, perfect. Now you can also set in and out points on your keyboard. If you take a look at your hand that's on the keyboard, you'll see that your fingers are on J, K, and L and hey, right above that are the I and O keys. I will set an in point; O will set an out point. So go ahead and hit the letter I key on your keyboard and now let's go ahead and play forward and we'll find the next sentence we want to include here in the interview.
Alright, let's pause. So we want to cut it right before he says the line, but sometimes people get enlightened, let's go ahead and find that. okay, rollback a little bit more. Another method too is just to click and drag on the Current Time indicator. Let's go ahead and try it that way. Okay, a little bit more. Alright, we want to find right before he opens his mouth to say the word but. A lot of precision in editing.
Okay, once you found that spot; hit the letter O key on your keyboard to set an out point. Now, I will show you another keyboard shortcut. This way, you won't have to go back to the program panel to do the extract command. You want to hit the apostrophe key on your keyboard. That's the key two to the right of the letter L, and that's your extract. Let's go back to the beginning and playback our cut.
Great! That's a great cut point for the interview and we're going to cover it with a transition later on. So don't worry about the fact that it jumps from clip to clip. So now let's find the rest of the bits and pieces we're going to want to extract out of this interview, let's go ahead and playback some more.
Let's stop right here. Now, of course there is a little bit of a jump right there in between these two shots. Let's go ahead and tighten this up. So we can simply once again look for the dead space in between his words and extract it. This time let's use the CTI to rollback. We'll want to find the exact frame where it cuts to the wide shot.
This time we're going to use another keyboard shortcut. These are the Arrow keys on your keyboard. Go ahead and try hitting the right facing arrow and you'll see that brings you one frame forward in time and then the left facing arrow, go ahead and hit that, brings you backward one frame in time.
So by hitting the forward and backward arrow keys, let's locate the exact frame where it cuts to the wide shot. Great, that's perfect and now, set an in point by hitting the letter I key on your keyboard. Okay, let's use the J, K, L combination to roll forward in slow motion. Again, it's K and L together.
Right where he starts talking, stop there, rollback a few frames, and set an out point. Now, to extract, use the apostrophe key keyboard shortcut, great. Now, let's bring the CTI back a little bit to the left before the cut point and see what that looks like, perfect.
