Alright, now that we have seen how you can save temporary changes to a folder, like the sort order, and the thumbnails, and all that jazz, using a distributed cash. Let's now talk about permanent changes that you can make to your illustrations. For example, what if you want to delete an illustration. Let's say I want to delete Shape 1.ai. It is just a couple of squares after all. Well, on the Macintosh side, at the finder level, I would have to press Command+Delete to move the thing to the trash can or drag it to the trash can, of course. On a PC, I would have to press that Del key to send it to the recycle bin. Well, the Bridge actually makes it easier to delete files, which can be a good thing. You just have to press the Backspace key on the PC or the Del key, either will work, or on the Macintosh side, just press the Delete key. You will get a warning however that's telling you that you are about to move this item to the trash can or to the Recycle Bin. That doesn't permanently throw it away. That just puts it in that storage container. That sort of last resting place for files before you absolutely trash them, throw them away for good. But you do get a warning. You can't say don't ever show this to me again, or you could keep the warning. I like to have this warning actually, just to make sure I really won't get rid of files in case I accidentally press the key.
If you do want to delete the file, click the Yes button. I am going to not delete the file by clicking the No button, because I want to go ahead and keep this file for now. You can also move files to different folders, like let's say, I go ahead and get the Shape 2 illustration here, and drag it to the Lesson 03 folder. That will move that file from one folder to the other. Notice that the Shape 2 file is now missing from my display here, it's not because it has been filtered away, it's because I actually moved it to a different location. I will go to Lesson 03, and low and behold, there it is. I am going to go ahead and click on it again. Now let's say I want to duplicate it to a different folder. Go ahead and drag the file to the different folder, but before you release, press and hold the Option key on the Mac, notice that you get that little plus(+) sign there, or the Alt key on the PC, then release your Mouse button, and then release Option or Alt. You will still see the Shape 2 file here inside the Lesson 03 folder if you are following along with me, but you will also see it inside the Lesson 02 folder.
Now let's say we want to tidy things up. Go back to Lesson 03, get rid of this file. I am going to click on it to select it pressing the Delete key and pressing on the Mac, Return or that would be Backspace+Enter on the PC, just to get rid of those files. So it turns out having that little sort of check there, that alert messages it's actually a good thing, especially since you can beyond it just by pressing Return on the Mac or Enter on the PC.
