No text or picture Add-ons were added yet. How sad!
So let us start by creating a new blank document. Just choose File, New, Document, Ctrl N or Command N on the Macintosh and we will just accept the Default preset here which is a simple letter document with half inch margin. You have seen this before and nothing is special here. Just go ahead and click okay. So here, we have our document. Now later in the process, let us say you would like to change the margins. It might seem pretty obvious. You can go to the File Menu and choose Documents Setup and in this dialog box is very familiar. It is basically the new document dialog box. However, you see here that we can change the number of pages, the page size. If we enable more options, we can control slug but there is no way to change the margins. All you have to do is instead of doing it here, go ahead and click Cancel, actually go up to the Layout Menu and inside the Layout Menu choose Margins and Columns.
This is how you adjust margins after you have already created the document. So choose this command and here, let us say we will change the margins from a half an inch to a quarter inch. I will make sure that the icon is depressed. In that way, all for fields will have the same margin. Now before we click okay, we will actually change the number of columns as well because we are going to see how the columns and ruler guides and grids are going to set. So in this case, make sure preview is turned on so we can see the changes that we are making and we will add three columns. By default, this document had a one column essentially just one large text area. I will bump that up to three, we can see the results down here. I will leave the gutter. This value right here is equal to one pica and click okay.
