So, we are going to ahead and close this document, no need to save it and we are going to explore document presets a little bit further. So, let us choose file, document presets and you can see out here, we have the default one that we have already seen. We already have the letter with one inch slug that we created, but in this case, we will choose define.
Now, in the document presets dialogue box, we do not really need this letter with one inch slug. You can keep it if you want it. I am going to delete it. It was just a simple example. Go ahead and ‘delete’, press ‘okay’. You can see here on the right that we create new document presets, add it and delete existing presets but we can also save and load presets. So, I am going click ‘load’ and follow with me, navigate to lesson four of part one of your project files and select the document called SavedDocumentPresets.dcst. Those are document settings or document presets. We have several built in for you, so make sure that file is selected and click ‘open’.
InDesign will parse through all those settings for a moment and you can see here that I have created four presets for you that we will use throughout these lessons, one for menu, one for an invitation, one for a postcard and one for a poster. Again, you can edit this, delete them make new ones, but we will use this throughout upcoming lessons. For now, I will go ahead and click ‘okay’ and to use these presets, we can always choose file, new document, grab one of the presets from the menu here. For example, we will work on the invitation file that is 5” x 8” and click ‘okay’ and you can see the results here on our document window. Now, if you are frequently recreating the same kinds of documents over and over again, I have a keyboard shortcut for you that I think you will really like. Go ahead and close this document window and we do not need to save it.
Now, on the Macintosh, I will press ‘command’ ‘option’ ‘end’ and what that will do is that it will create a new document from scratch but it uses the last used settings or the last used document preset in the new document dialogue box. On windows that would be control alt N.
