Hey everybody, we are back in Premier Pro CS4. This is tutorial number 2. So once you’ve set up your project as you did in tutorial one, your screen will open to this and this is the Premier Pro user interface. And we’re going to take a look at a lot of different features and how you can get going to start out in a new project.
So first of all, in this area here is where you’re going to have all your assets to your project. As you can see, we have project tutorial. This is a preview window here that we’ll take a look at in a second. These are your—we’re going to put all of your folders or your bins and actually, let’s create one now. So I like to be pretty meticulous about labeling everything because I’m known to look for things and go crazy trying to find them in the past. But since I’ve been doing it this way, life has been so much easier. So, I’ve create a new bin and I may call this one just footage and then I’ll do another bin and I’ll call this one sequences and then I’ll do another bin and I’m going to call this one sub clips and yeah, we’ll go some more. We do some that says titles and so on and so forth.
So first thing I want to do is move my sequence 01 into my sequences bin and now you can see it's near there. It's nice and tidy. If everyone has not have it shown, it's a very simple to do. Also down here, there’s a search option so if you click that, you can find pretty much anything that you have connected to this project which is really, really handy. You’ll also have a new item so if you want to do, click on that. You can make a new sequence, you know, off line file titles, bars and tones, color matt, etcetera.
This is where we do in the new bin and that’s all you need to know about this right now. So now, here is our source monitor and actually let’s bring in some footage. So what you can do is go up to file and import and that will bring up some footage and let me just look at my hard drive for some heartbeat stuff and clips, and let’s see what clips we have, something exciting. I like this clip. So, now I’m importing it and here’ my clip. As you could see up here, it's a small window that you can preview. You can take a snapshot and poster frame. You can also just play and it’ll play the footage for you if you wanted to just to take quick gander of what it is. And so let’s do some house keeping, let’s drag this footage into footage. So that’s one way I’ve imported footage. You can also just do the lazy and the simple way which is to double click in this area here and it brings up the same thing and we’ll bring on something else.
Let’s see, I’ll bring in this little space thing and as you can see, there it is again and we’ll drag that one into footage once again. So now, we have all our footage in there and let’s take a look at—everything is in layers in, all the panels by the way. So, if I click on resource central which is behind my project tutorial, that’s news sort of stuff—you know, I can click on any of links here. I think I can. All right here, there is a link you can click on it. So, here’s the link. There’s a lot. The other ones don’t have links. But if there’s a link, you’ll see this little globe, it will tell you the link and click on templates. If you want to bring in some templates and here are several different templates if you want to use. This is the stuff you can just drag in and start using. It's pretty cool.
So, let’s go back to our project. So this is all these pane here. Underneath it, we've got info. So I click on this and my footage up here, it’ll tell me down here. This is the name of the file, it's video, 30 frames per second, 720 by 46. They’ve been out not said, the duration of it, etcetera. Underneath that is the effects panel and we’re going to take a look at that in some later lessons but it's got a lot of presets, audio, video effects, transitions. You can make your own custom effects and put them in here and call them whatever you like.
You’ve got a history panel which is really handy. If you want to go back steps, you can go and check out different areas, which we did. We created a bin here, we renamed it, etcetera. So that’s really handy. This is the media browser, wherever you want to look on different parts of your hard drive and actually if I just squeeze it a little bit, you can see what you need to find. You can actually also have connected to this cards from the Panasonic or any other kind, like this is a external hard drive and I can look on there and find—If had footage on there and import that way, so really, a lot of ways that you can import things premier pro. Very cool!
Next, let’s take a look at the source monitor. So if I drag this in there, I’ve got my source monitor in there and my footage is now in there. I can also—let me just undo that. That’s not what I wanted to do. Try that back in. I can also just go up here and close it so there’s nothing in there again. I can just go in here once again and then I drag it in, but I can also double click it and it will open up the source monitor. So if you don’t want to go any dragging and you get to use to just double clicking, that’s fine, I do that as well. And so this is our source monitor and as you can see I have titles, save titles, save regions here. You can turn that on and off right here and you’ll see anytime you have something, it will tell you what it is. So there’s safe margins. This little thing here is a loop so let’s say, you’re doing—for example, I just did some cutting on a documentary, I wanted to hear certain parts of the audio and I kept looping it. So I’ll hear it and extend it, etcetera.
So, that’s that. This is the output. You have a lot of different things. This is a little more advance and we’ll go into that in later lesson. If you’ve got your buttons, play rewind, forward, etcetera. This is set your in points, that’s your out point and we will go into that at a later lesson. This is a jag wheel, so if you want to just click it and drag, you can drag it, pretty cool. You can also just drag the blue marker, so it's fine. Right now, you can set it to as anything you want 10%, if you wanted to shrink it, 50% or maybe you’re adding things that you want to move in here, so you want space to look, but most of the time, you’ll be working in fit, and that’s it for now on this. Also right here, it says that this is a video clip and this says audios. So it’s basically, if I want to do drag just the video or just the audio, it would give me the opportunity and then also both. So I can do that and then just to get this down here to the timeline, which is this place. Actually, we’ll go into that in the second list. Let’s look at some more things behind here.
We have the effects control which is behind here but right now, we don’t have any clip selected. We just have the stuff and the source monitor it needs to be on the timeline. And of course, this is meta data which is fantastic. We can add tons of information that we want. This is where it all came from, where it has been—the file path. It was created on what date, etcetera, the size. We can write in here, contributor coverage, I mean there is so much information you can add to any of this. And it's powered by XMP which is a great format from aAdobe. For example here, if we want to put some stuff in the Photoshop information in here, it's great to have all these meta data. There’s also a thing that’s really cool that I’m going to go into another lesson called speech transcript where—and it's not going to apply here because we don’t have any audio. But basically, it takes the audio and turns it into a transcript for you and it's really rough right now but it's getting much better and I know in the future versions of Premier 4, it's going to be tremendous. So we’ll look at that in a special tutorial just for that. Okay, so here’s the audio mixer as wells o you can, you know, here’s master, we’re going to audio mixing later on and that is this pane.
Next, we’ve got our timeline, so we’ve got sequences here. So this is sequence 01 which we created, which is right here. We’re going to go back into my source monitor and just click in drag. Our footage is now in our program sequence, which is this monitor here. This is your final output and if I just click the space bar, it’ll start playing, very simple. Inside of this monitor, you have similar controls, you have the shuttle, so you can drag it back and forth. You’ve got titles save on and off, you’ve got output, we’ll go into that later like I said. Forward and backwards, you can do markers, set in the out points and we’ll get into all that at later lesson. As well as the timeline, you’ve got the tools over here. So you’ve got your selection tool, track tool. This is a whole section that we’re going to cover next, what to do with the different tools.
Taking a look at the effects controls, so if I double click here. Now, I can do some kind of effects that I want. So I’ve got motion. So if I wanted to scale it up, down, I can key frame this and we’re going to go into key frame in another lesson. And that is the Premier Pro user interface. I look forward to having you back next time.
