Audra Lowe: It may not be able to be tough at home but its pretty chilly out here, I think they’ve said the high was suppose to be 30, we haven’t got there yet. So we’ve pop inside the fabulous Sea Grill Restaurant for a tasty treat of hot chocolate, but this one is adult style.
Well, you know what its cold outside the last thing you want to do is stay outside, come indoors. I have some hot chocolate, that’s exactly what we’re doing here today at Rockefeller Center. Chris Sjoholm is here and I’ve got my buddy, Mar Jennings as well, our life style expert. Couldn’t be joined by two greater—good man and good looking at the same time I got hot chocolate—
Mar Jenning: Great to be here.
Audra Lowe: And they’re going to be doing the cooking and all the mixing and I’m going to kind of sit here and watch. So what are we going to make here today Chris?
Chris Sjoholm: We’re going to make some spike hot chocolate today for—
Audra Lowe: Spike.
Chris Sjoholm: This freezing cold day outside.
Audra Lowe: Yeah, so this an adult drink right?
Chris Sjoholm: Correct.
Audra Lowe: Okay, all right and Mar you’re going to help us out.
Mar Jenning: Absolutely.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Chris Sjoholm: So you’re going to take some milk and some heavy cream, were just going to damp that right in here, a nice hot pan.
Audra Lowe: That’s hot. How much you have in there, about?
Chris Sjoholm: It’s about three cups.
Audra Lowe: Three cups right, okay.
Chris Sjoholm: And you can actually add the Valrhona chocolate, which is right there, and the dark chocolate you can add that all that at once and we’re just going to mix that all up once you have—
Audra Lowe: And do you have to continuously stir these
Chris Sjoholm: Continuously stir the out so you won’t burn.
Audra Lowe: That’s not good at all. And do you guys make quite bit of this?
Chris Sjoholm: We do especially during this time of the year.
Audra Lowe: Is it really spiked Chris, like can you tell?
Chris Sjoholm: It is, yes.
Audra Lowe: It is or I can—
Chris Sjoholm: So we don’t recommend—
Mar Jenning: It’s the holidays of course, you want it the spike.
Audra Lowe: Alright, so how long—
Chris Sjoholm: But I’d be honest with you, you can serve this to kids without the alcohol it’s very good and its rich with chocolate ao.
Audra Lowe: And how about—how long would you need to stir this normally?
Chris Sjoholm: Just a couple of minutes.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Chris Sjoholm: I mean what’s the chocolate is melting—
Mar Jenning: Melting—
Audra Lowe: Yeah.
Chris Sjoholm: Yeah it’s melting already in here.
Audra Lowe: Doesn’t take long.
Chris Sjoholm: What you want to do is you want to preheat the pan, so that’s why we want to pour the milk in. It's scolded on the bottom.
Audra Lowe: Exactly nice in while hot, okay so next step what would we do here Chris?
Chris Sjoholm: Okay, so once that’s done, which I’ve already poured into this, this is our finish product right here.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Mar Jenning: So it changes the consistency, turns really to hot chocolate color
Chris Sjoholm: Because right now it starts very light.
Audra Lowe: Right.
Chris Sjoholm: Pour it.
Audra Lowe: That’s it. I thought there was more, that’s easy.
Mar Jenning: It’s pretty simple right we could do that right?
Chris Sjoholm: I’m just going to lower the flame so this simmers so it won’t burn the bottom of it.
Audra Lowe: Right, okay.
Mar Jenning: So you have to watch it stay over and watch it.
Chris Sjoholm: Stay over and it’s a quick process.
Audra Lowe: Okay and how do you guys come up with the idea for this?
Chris Sjoholm: Myself and our executive pastry chef, Michael Gabriel, we came up with the thing—you know that they’re on a Holiday Season where we are at Rock Center Café at Rockefeller Plaza—
Mar Jenning: Right.
Chris Sjoholm: You know it’s that Holiday theme and here so—
Audra Lowe: Right.
Chris Sjoholm: We’ve figure we come up with a recipe and it’s been a success.
Audra Lowe: That’s great. That’s great.
Mar Jenning: So it’s a classic drink, right for winter
Audra Lowe: Yeah, exactly, all right so, we’re going to pour some of the finish product into a glass right here, and your going to help us touching it up.
Mar Jenning: And I get to try it out and I get try it out because you’re having a baby.
Audra Lowe: I can’t have any alcohol.
Mar Jenning: You’re having a baby; I wish I was having baby but congratulations, we’re so delighted.
Audra Lowe: Did you know I’m feeling this, transfer all the pain to you Mar.
Mar Jenning: So, I’m going to drink this up, I want to be the Godfather.
Chris Sjoholm: Congratulations.
Audra Lowe: Thank you guys, thank you.
Mar Jenning: And I’m going to drink and be married.
Auder Lowe: You got pay your college tuition too.
Mar Jenning: Absolutely, you know captain made, and we have choices from alcohol what we want to put in it, right?
Chris Sjoholm We’ve put bourbons in it, I have an orange liqueur up there the Grand Marnier which were going to try out today but—
Mar Jenning: I think I’m going to go with the Grand Marnier—
Audra Lowe: Yeah.
Mar Jenning: And you’re going to put, what about an ounce and a half?
Chris Sjoholm: An ounce in and a half into the glass—
Mar Jenning: Okay.
Chris Sjoholm: That’s perfect right there and were just going to pour—
Mar Jenning: Because I can enjoy it, why not.
Chris Sjoholm: The hot chocolate right in.
Audra Lowe: And for the God shot glass child give you a marshmallow.
Mar Jenning: Creamy, delight, a marshmallow and I’m going to take a taste. Looks delicious, smells like traditional hot chocolate.
