Rebecca Breton: It's the match up you've been waiting for. Hi! I am Rebecca Breton and welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are taking a look at the designer collaboration between H&M and Comme des Garcons.
French for like boys, the innovative Comme des Garcons for H&M line by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo is showcasing one of the most significant figures in modern fashion.
Kazuyuki Yamamuro: I think this is amazing, really amazing project that make it -- sort of democracy in the fashion creation.
Rebecca Breton: This collaboration between world famous designer and the sweetest cheap and sheik retailer is bringing designers into the mainstream.
Hilary Alexander: She's got a fascination for western tailoring like her compatriot, Yohji Yamamoto, but she likes to subvert that and turn it around and she completely believes in what she does.
Rebecca Breton: The collection is typical of Kawakubo style. Now in throughout the world for her artistic inspiration and avant guard designs, Kawakubo's designs for H&M showcase a color palette of black, navy and white. Subversive details such as asymmetrical seams and unexpected holes punctuate the line and her trademark oversized polka dots are bold statement as well.
The balance between this brand's play-formers and summer details could be seen in the man's two piece suit. Collaborations between designers and main street stores are nothing new and this partnership allows the average consumer to wear designer fashions for a fraction of the price. This long awaited collaboration is a great way for designers to see how their creations are worn once off the runway.
Hilary Alexander: It's a very, very special event and I think there's going to be many designers who are thinking, wow, if Rei Kawakubo can do it, maybe I can.
