Hi! This is Francisco Bujan from vitalcoaching.com. We are talking about the waking up of your power and the topic for this day is to aim for good, not perfect. Okay, this one is a situation that I hear a lot of my clients talking about and there is a very simple solution for it. You know, when you are very stress out. When you are running in all directions you have to deal with work, kids, and with all sorts of pressure coming from society. There is a very simple tip, a very simple strategy that you can apply in your life, it is aim for good not perfect.
Okay, when we come back, we aim for good and it means aiming for 80% perfection. Okay, not 100%, not all the way to 100% and I am going to explain it to you exactly why. The first thing is that being a perfectionist is extremely stressful, alright. When you want to aim really for the top and for the best, or 100% all the time then you are going to put lot of stress on your system.
The second element is that aiming for perfection is extremely time consuming, but very often if you just aim for good for 80% good you are going to spend in one, two days, and three days working. On a project for instance, when you want perfection you are going to spend a month, two months, and three months. That is the kind of proportion we are talking about going from the 80% to 100%. You either it takes much more time.
The third element is that when you aim for perfection, very often you are start training for the other aspects of your life. It means that you are going to focus so much energy into one thing that you are going to start neglecting other aspects of you existences of your life. For instance, if you are an artist, try to focus on your art and you really want to do that really, really well. Sometimes you are going to neglect your health, or your social life, or family for instance. So, you to find exactly the right balance. So, that is what you are creating and what you are generating in terms of result is not to be getting the impact in your very reason for life. That you keep on feeding, you know, everything that needs to be fed. Take another the example for instance, if you are a business person, right, you have this report to write and you know that a few people have to see it. Very often here is what is going to happen, you are finishing to write. You, it is four o’clock in the afternoon, you are about to finish it making a few lines, nice final touches to it. You print it, then you realized there is a whole lot of things that you can do to make this report much better. So, maybe you are going to keep on working on it. Eight, ten, nine, you know, eleven o’clock at night. You comeback home and you are very tired. Your, the wife, or husband, or your family did not see you for the whole day, you wake up for the following day, it is six o’clock in the morning you are already tired and you go back to work.
Okay, that is one possibility. What is going to happen with this report. Maybe your boss or the people who are supposed to be really in need. You are going to, you know, take the report, look at it, you know, quickly and you think into two or three minutes to look at it or sometimes even shorter if you just get the feeling just by looking at the color and then you put it aside and that is about it. And the extra time that you spent working on this report sometimes is for nothing, really. It can not be like that. Very often you are going to invest too much time and energy into making it perfect.
Now, imagine that to take the same example, it is four o’clock in the afternoon and you think, okay, I could do much better than that, but you know what, it is not needed. It is not what is required from you. You do not need to create this perfect report that, you know, nobody is going to look at it in depth anyway. So, what you do four o’clock in the afternoon, you make a choice. You decide that 80% good is okay, it is enough. You drop it. You give it to whoever has to receive it from you and you go home and you have a good quality time with your family. You go to the gym, train a little bit, feed your body, you know, and do all this things, which are going to make your day complete and I am going to put a load of pressure for the rest of, you know, the week. You will not feel tired, etcetera.
Now, there are a couple of exemptions, of course. You know, or else you need to be perfect is if you try to launch a rocket to the moon, you know, you cannot make mistakes.
If you are in a, you know, for instance in a software design, or if you are into a very competitive areas and you are planning to train for the Olympics. Okay, all these areas require the high level of perfection, but in many times and many or else you can drop and not to be so perfectionist. Okay, I hope this makes sense. You take care and have a good day. Bye-bye.
