Air Guitar Basics
Hi, I’m Tim “The Six String General” Granlund and I’m going to show you how to Air Guitar. Right now, we’re going to talk about the basic technique of Air Guitar. First,let’s just picture a guitar, got your body down here and the strings go up there, they go up for now part to the neck so you drape that over here. Now, if you’re right handed, the body of the guitar is going to be lower down towards your right hand. If you’re left handed obviously you don’t want to put that around, the left hand is going to be down here. I’m right handed, so we’re going to do it this way. The neck is where you’re going to change what notes your plan. So your fingers hold down the strings in different positions to change the notes. Higher notes are going to be down here and if you want to play lower notes you’re going to need your hand up the neck. Down here, this right hand is going to be one of a couple different things. And sometimes when you’re hearing music, you use single notes being played. So you’re just going to be kicking at the individual notes. Now, keep in mind you’re going to be doing that and then you’re going to be altering those notes up here so it start two part process. You have to remember to coordinate the two hands here. So if you’re picking the notes, it was going to look something like this. Alright, that’s when picking your notes and sometimes you just going to hear this crunchy like [demonstration] that’s when striking all the strings at one time when they’re playing some chords. So you’re going to have some power chords going and that’s going to sound a little something like this [Guitar Playing]. Alright so there you go. Now, you’re playing some good old fashioned power chords. Now, the next you’re going to do is—sometimes you’re going to hear notes that are kind of really stretched out, you can take a little bit of license here. Keep in mind, when you’re playing air guitar, the true technical accuracy is in back and forth. You want to look like you’re playing a guitar; you’re making some notes appear, you actually hitting the strings down here. Well, you know what? When your hearing some of these really stretched out notes, there’ just couple of ways you can do it. Think if you’re really doing it, you can pull the whammy bar down here. So you can do it like that, if you want to run your hand up and down the string like that. So I’ll show, it will go like this [Guitar playing] alright, now, you just put some good long stretched out notes. And of course you want to remember too, now you heard a note it kind of wobbles a bit because [demonstration] just remember that you kind of tweak the fingers up the air, keep the notes wobbling. That’s basically in a nutshell, how you’re going to play your air guitar. Just play the notes up here and change what notes you’re playing up here. All right? Next, we’re going to talk about some flair and how you can spice at your performance and make you’re little bit crazier and take advantage of the fact that you’re playing Air Guitar.
