Robert: My name is Robert, I am from Alhambra California. My question is does alcohol affect older people differently than it does younger people? David Bronson: Robert that question is absolutely on the mark. It does affect older people differently for three major reasons. First their metabolism is different. Two drinks in an older person may be the same as four drinks to the younger person. They just metabolize alcohol more slowly. Second their fluid balance shifts that promotes absorption of alcohol under the brain, they get a greater effect and the third factor is that older people may have cognitive impairment or steadiness problems already and alcohol will only make that worse.
