Not all the pain is created equal. The PGA tour doctor is here with a knee injury primer.
A dislocated knee cap occurs when the bone that covers the knee slips out of place often to the outside of the knee. This injury is usually visible to the eye and is bound to cause pain and swelling in the affected area.
Bursitis of the knee is another known cause of knee pain. It occurs when the bursa – small sacs of fluid which cushion the knee joints become inflamed. This injury often occurs after long periods of kneeling.
The tendons are fibrous bands of tissue, which connect muscles to bones. Tendonitis results when one of the knee’s two tendons becomes overused. The discomfort of tendonitis usually is inconstant where it occurs during periods of activity. These injuries often occur in people who ski. More are result from inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
