Derrick Schommer: Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer. And today, we’re going to be working on the aloe vera recipe. This is from one of our, I would say frequent viewers, like every episode. Is that frequent? Every episode? Very frequent?
Cameraman: You’re a dork.
Derrick Schommer; What? Why am I a dork?
Cameraman: You don’t know the definition of frequent.
Derrick Schommer: Very frequently, sorry. So Soulve is a viewer of the show and sent us a little recipe. It’s called the aloe vera, like I’ve said, and it’s going to have some Midori which we always love to play with Midori. They called for roses lime cordial, which after doing some research when we back and forth, we realized that’s really roses lime juice in America. So if you’re an America, that’s roses lime juice, if you’re anywhere else its roses lime cordial or at least Europe.
What I did is, I like the fresh lime better, so substitutions are acceptable. As a matter of fact, instead of using citrus vodka, I’ve substituted the Haamonii Shochu which also very soon will be an upcoming sponsor so I’m excited about that. So that, I find it to be a little more light and fluffy and smooth, so I’m kind of leading towards that, but you get the idea, citrus vodka. We’re going to top it with some Club Soda. And what we’re going to do is we’re going to build in a high ball glass, we’re going to use a little sweet sour. So we’ve got—let’s see what are our ingredients. We’re going to use 1/3 ounce of the Schochu. We’re going to use an ounce of Midori so this is very Midori heavy. We’re going to do 1/3 ounce of sweet and sour, 2-3 ounce of the roses or lime juice and we’re going to fill it with Club Soda, pretty easy, right? And we don’t need to build it, just throw that over there.
We’re going to need ice, I can’t find my ice scoop, one more. So we’re going to build that right in the cup itself and we’ll start with Shochu because it’s always a good time, 1/3 ounce, there you go. We’ll do an ounce of Midori, so this drink is going to get green real fast. Also before I forget, go to EverydayDrinkers.com and there’s a little podcast button, click on that if you’re into podcast, audio podcast, we just did a recent one on whiskys, on bourbons and whiskys and stuff like that. So if you’re into whiskys, what else we do, we did buffalo trace, we did some Irish whisky, we did some Canadian whisky, some Canadian club, so you can go and check that out, if you’re into that type of thing. I know we do have some people who watch both and that’s always cool. Oh! Nice. 1/3, there you go. Stir that a little bit. I like to get it nice and chilly, that’s good enough. Dump the whole bunch of this in there, that should do. Good height, you could throw a lime wedge in here if you want to keep it with the green theme. That’s a really nice color, very green just like aloe vera. I’m not really so sure about this, so the aloe vera to you when I say aloe vera, you thought—you’re going to make something with a lotion? No. Well yes but it doesn’t smell like aloe vera, it smells like Midori.
Cameraman: It also helps burns.
Derrick Schommer; Burns. If you’re burnt, aloe vera. I’m not really sure if that’s going to play out. So let’s give that a tasty taste, it does smell like Midori. It’s got nice lightness because of the Club Soda. Overall, I think it’s a bit dry. Tell me if it tastes like a melon ball. Is it the melon ball? No, Midori sour. This is like a Midori sour, you’ve got the sweet sour mix, you’ve got the Midori, you’ve got a dropped cap and just subtle amount of the citrus, and I don’t know.
Female: I think it’s a coconut.
Derrick Schommer; Coconut, that’s what I was going to say. Really?
Female: Yeah.
Derrick Schommer: I think that’s the Midori citrus. You’re getting like a very light aftertaste of this coconut, okay. No coconut in here, but it works. So you get green. It’s sweet. It’s got that sweetness to it but it also got a good sour balance. So you’ve got that playing for you. So there you go. That would be your aloe vera. Definitely kind of a tasty drink if you’re looking for something with cool colors, has neat ingredients, it is a little above and beyond that of a simple Midori sour, definitely check that out.
Also, I’m wearing the Partida shirt. This what you can win if you go to EverydayDrinkers.tv/partida and you live in California, Florida, New York or Texas and you fill out the contest that Partida is holding where you can win a cool bag, you can go back to see the bags or wherever they are. I don’t feel like getting there right now. I’ll get it later. You’ll get the shirt, of course the Agave nectar and the shaker, Boston shaker, put a pint glass on here, you’ll get some of these lime squeeze, lemon squeeze if you choose, a strainer, a couple of glasses. Basically, it gets you all prepped for making margaritas or anything else. You get a recipe book to even get you to the next level, so that’s EverydayDrinkers.tv/partida, there’s a draw in every single week so you just keep going in and retry if you don’t win. I’m hoping that some people on our show would go there and actually win because I’m not holding it, but I’m just trying to get the word out that they got some cool gear.
So I’m your host Derrick Schommer, that’s your aloe vera and we’re teaching you how to drink.
